Brian Harvey Award

The directors of the Water Supply Association hereby announce the retirement of Brian Harvey from the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Association. Brian’s retirement concludes another chapter in a long and distinguished career in the water supply field. On behalf of all members, the Directors extend our sincere gratitude to Brian for providing years of dedicated service as a Director, Chair and Secretary-Treasurer of the Association.

Brian’s accomplishments in the water supply field are extraordinary. He served as manager of the Vernon Irrigation District from 1964 to 1993, during which time he guided the District through one of the largest, most difficult and expensive irrigation rehabilitation projects ever to occur in the province. It was certainly the most ambitious of the ARDA projects of the 1960’s and it was key in making rural Vernon what it is today.

Brian’s involvement with the WSABC (formerly the Association of B.C. Irrigation Districts) began in 1964. During his tenure as the longest serving Director in the history of the Association (1964 to 1993), Brian also served as Chair, again, longer than any other incumbent, prior to taking over as Secretary-Treasurer from Tom Carter in 1993. His knowledge of the water supply field and the tough issues faced by water suppliers have provided a steady hand and invaluable guidance to the Association throughout his years of service.

In recognition of this contribution to the Association, Brian was honoured with a lifetime membership in 1994. It is the sincere wish of all members that Brian continues to participate in association events in the years ahead. Thanks Brian, here’s wishing you all the best!
